ABSURD REALITIES

TODAY, ANY ABSURDITY BECOMES A REAL POSSIBILITY

Look around you, what would have been unthinkable ten years ago or so is becoming commonplace today - from school shootings to americans terrorizing and torturing others to Britney/Paris sluts commanding headlines to water being privatized to illegal immigrants demanding rights to our food/medicines/toys and now lipsticks being contaminated to yadayadayada, and the list goes on and on and on. Feel free to add to your own thoughts to the list.

more absurd realities:
religious zealots setting our moral compasses, grown-ups adultizing babies, pills replacing common sense health promotion behaviors.

wait a minute boo boo -- food, health care, housing and education are basic human rights. our ability to offer to insure that everyone has access to these things really speaks to our ability to assume the responsibility of being a "first world" nation. this is not an absurd reality! if cuba can do it, with it's very limited resources, we can too. the pie IS big enough!

that we are conditioned to think the pie isn't big enough is an absurd reality.

Shame, shame on me, an english major. My post is a great example of why punctuation was invented. It allows for the proper reading of words and I can see that you misinterpreted my words based on the lack of punctuation. The use of 'to' was to link the continuum of absurdities ie., the rash of product recalls and warnings in this country that are flooding in from China, not a denial of basic services to all citizens.

But since you brought it up, I agree Cuba is a good example of providing medical services to all people and that includes me if I could get there, but I do have a problem with millions of illegal aliens coming to this country expecting free education, free medical services and demanding other services which I'm taxed dearly for and can't get out of paying. When I can go to their country and expect the same free services, I'll be happy. In fact I can't even get into their countries without a whole lot of rigamarole. I can't buy property or start a business in Mexico, for instance, and have no rights there or other countries whose people we welcome. I realize the Statue of Liberty states "give us your tired, your hungry, your poor" but as with anything else, along with privileges comes responsibility. I believe there is a correlation between the escalation of our medical costs and our state/property taxes based on the demands of all the people utilizing the system without paying their fair share. Those of us who live on fixed incomes without any possibility of an increase feel the constant escalation of costs such as property taxes which support education.

I truly believe Americans need to organize another 'Boston Tea Party' which originally occurred due to taxation without representation. Today, we have representation for illegals and corporte entities without taxation. The middle class which built this country is being squeezed mercilessly and the very rich and very poor are reaping the benefits.

I do not feel that our elected officials legislate for the best interests of all, but for what will keep them in power. I'd like to see a grass roots movement take hold in this country, in which people who do not feel that their taxes should fund a war they don't believe in, or who don't believe in automatic amnesty for illegals from anywhere, or a government that allows deadly products into this country because of unfair trade agreements - without scrutiny of the products - all because of the greed of a few. On tv this weekend, it was said that 50% of the ingredients in our medicines come from China and every product comes with a disclaimer. The product may (or may not) cure what it was prescribe for, but the side effects will kill you.

And the beat goes on...any absurdity becomes a real possibility today.

whew, you said a mouthful!

the thing that stands out most though in your rant ;-) is give aways to corporations.

we were just talking about this: the defense industry is making money hand over fist from the war effort. we (and generations to come are footing the bill) and they're not giving a damned thing back.

this is so much more frightening to than a democratic society creatng a safety net for poor people.
