If I found $1,000 in my recycling bin here's what I'd do with it:
- $250 to Wesleyan University (I would like to participate in giving that experience to another kid);
- $250 to the Food Project (sustainable agriculture in the city rocks);
- $50 to Planned Parenthood (even tho my eggs have turned to dust we gotta keep choice legal);
- $50 to ACT Roxbury (support arts initiatives for black folks in Roxbury);
- $200 to Cyrano's student loans;
- $100 to the rainy day fund (a girl's gotta be prepared);
- $100 would disappear on a night out with the Breakfast club (pictured above).
P.S. I'm not usually this altruistic -- this is the season for giving (so I've collected a bunch of gift receipts for my favorite charities). At any other time it would go towards random, untraceable junk

hey --
henceforth, 10% of all my imaginary monies goes toward some sort of charitable endeavor.
$100 goes to today's charity of choice -- community servings -- to fund the christmas wish list of someone living (probably housebound) with hiv/aids.
the other $900 is to buy christmas gifts for YOU lovely people.
clearly christmas shopping is on my mind today. it was the first sunday of advent, the season of preparation for christmas, so there was a special anticipatory buzz at church today. very nice -- you know how artificially pleasant people get around the holidays :-).
It's a wonderful and empowering feeling to give to others. It so happens I came across an old purse in my closet. Lo and behold when I went thru it, I came up with a windfall of $1,000. Now, I can get old Caroline (the Ford) out of the shop, get her fixed up and sell her to Charlie for a price he can't possibly not afford. Caroline just needs body work since I had her overhauled in August. The old gal only has 85,000 miles on her and lots of life to give. Actually another possibility would be for Char to get her fixed up and I would transfer the title. Gifts are always better when the recipient invests a little of themselves in the transaction.
BYW does that picture exemplify found money :-) Everybody does look happy and prosperous on that fine day!
Better late than never!
I decided to try to clean my house today for the holidays; what an overwhelming task.
I thought it would be easiest to start by folding the clothes that had been laying around my bedroom.
Once folded I figured the next logical step would be to put them away, fancy that. I couldn't fit one more thing into my already overstuffed closet. I had to remove and reorganize the piles of clothes that were already bulging from my shelves. I ended up with a bag of summer clothes, a bag for good will and a big surprise!
Hidden away under loads of clothes, I found $1,000, rainy day money tucked away for a clean and quick get away. I decided not to run away, although this would proably be easier than cleaning for me so I decided to spend this found money:
-$300 Garmin Nuvi 360 Navigation System for J; a belated christmas present The spirit of the season is giving after all. A lump of coal was perhaps a little too harsh.
-I sent $350 to pay off credit card debt, and
-$350 on Miles tuition. I am paying his school bill slowly in the hopes that he will be able to complete his time there, but not so quickly that I lose everything if they throw him out.
Good for you for starting to clean-up. The end result is so rewarding. A little bit of order is infinitely better than ignoring it and watching the piles grow!
Was wondering if I should invest in a navigation system. I'm tired of getting lost (and ever since my printer conked out mapquest isn't doing it either). Maybe I'll start straightening up and happen upon a pile of money.
